Prologis has begun a major energy-efficiency upgrade at 23,000 sqm warehouse and 1,700 sqm office in Prologis Park Budapest–Sziget. The project centers on installing high-efficiency heat pumps to cut fossil-fuel use and improve performance. The warehouse is being occupied by Prologis’ long-term partner – a global provider of energy technologies.

The project includes the installation of 23 heat pumps, with a combined capacity of 673 kW, that will replace the existing gas heating system. The works form part of a renewed long-term partnership, agreed alongside a new leasing extension. The facility is used for the storage and assembly of electrical distribution and energy-management equipment.

The area’s current gas heating system generates roughly 139,000 kg of CO₂ each year, depending on factors such as weather conditions. By the second half of 2026, this system will be replaced with a fully electric heating solution, marking a significant step forward in lowering the Prologis customer’s carbon footprint and supporting their sustainability commitments.

The system will also be capable of cooling, helping the HVAC system maintain comfortable conditions inside the warehouse during summer heatwaves.

The heat pumps are part of a broader modernization project implemented by Prologis to enhance the building’s energy efficiency. In addition to the heat pumps, the warehouse will receive new waterproofing membrane and upgraded roof insulation, which will reduce heat loss by 17%.

The heat pump project is being delivered as part of the Prologis Essentials platform, which provides customers with a range of services to adapt their warehouses to their specific needs. These services range from simple solutions such as racking and forklift purchasing to energy-efficiency solutions, such as supporting the transition to heat-pump systems. The program leverages our global purchasing power, enabling partners to access high-quality equipment under favorable terms.

The comprehensive energy efficiency project at Prologis Park Budapest–Sziget shows that cooperation and trust between two global companies can result in great initiatives with very tangible results. We are very proud that we can work together with our customer to support their sustainability credentials in Hungary” said Zsuzsanna Hunyadi, Director, Leasing & Customer Experience at Prologis.

To ensure smooth realization of the project, it has been planned to minimize the impact on the customer’s day-to-day operations at the warehouse.

We are aware of the importance of this facility at Prologis Park Budapest–Sziget for the customer. That’s why we worked closely with them to plan the project’s implementation in a way that ensured continuous, undisrupted operations. Even during the most intensive modernization works,” said Zsolt Sándor Szabó, Development Manager at Prologis, who oversees the technical aspects of the project.

The large sustainability project in Hungary at Prologis Park Budapest–Sziget comes right after Prologis achieved a major global milestone. In 2025, the company reached 1 GW of solar energy and storage capacity worldwide, marking significant progress toward one of its key impact and sustainability goals.
